Picking up blogging again

In good humour and health I bid you hello and good day, friend.

I am going to attempt to update this blog regularly. Last post was in February 2010. First wasone day before that, and they are the only two posts before this one. So that is the sum total of my so far feeble attempts at blogging. And they were seriously boring posts! Not that it matters, as I have precisely 0 followers. :-(

My fault, of course: I have a blog that a) I have told no-one about, and b) I have never seriously updated. Now I have to find enough interesting things to say to make up regular posts, but I am hoping that will encourage me to find more interesting things in my life.

The main reason for writing this blog is actually food - or more specifically, cooking it. Eating it is also ok. And beer. I love beer. I include all varieties under that umbrella. Yes, I am an ale drinker, and a member of CamRA. I am also a lager drinker - I don't see why drinking one should preclude drinking the other. But I'm talking about good ale and lager, no crap. Very subjective, as you quite rightly point out, but this is my blog, ergo my opinion counts highest. I may not always be right, but I am always right!

So the plan is: pictures, recipes and methods of my three main meals of the day. You might also get some anecdotes connected with the meals, or completely unrelated items. Also, restaurant reviews (one coming soon, if I have time), drinks, evenings out and anything else I care to share with you. Maybe every day, maybe not. Watch this space.

Eat well until next time,

Lamb in Palava sauce was ok. Not brilliant, but ok. Perfectly edible, but it isn't one I'm going to add to my 'cook again soon' list.

However; I served it with couscous, which was adapted from Nigel Slater's recipe here: (http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2009/apr/26/nigel-slater-couscous).

1. Three-herb orange couscous salad

A bright-flavoured and singularly refreshing salad to accompany cold meats or grilled fish. Its sharp, fresh flavours are very fine with grilled mackerel.

Serves 3 as a side dish

a cup of hot vegetable stock or water
fine couscous - 80g
a large orange
coriander leaves - a large handful
parsley - a large handful
mint - a small bunch
the juice of a lemon

I replaced the lemon juice with lime juice and added chopped raisins, sultanas, spring onion and celery. That worked really well.

Tonight we are eating out. Oh, and tomorrow!

Hot dogs and corn-on-the-cob for Saturday lunch. Brilliant. Haven't figured out Saturday dinner yet. I'll have to have a root around in the freezer. Toad in the hole on Sunday. Awesome!

Tonight is lamb in Palava sauce, a recipe from BBC Books Good Food Magazine "101 One-Pot Dishes". Photo looks good. Basically lamb stew with tomatoes, spinach and egg. Recipe to follow.

New blogger - new blog

Hello and welcome to the first post in my first blog.

I am new to blogging and if I'm honest I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with my blog, other than clog up the intertubes.

I'm really getting into my cooking so I think I'd like to use the blog to share my culinary experiences with the rest of the world, but knowing what I'm like, I may well get bored with blogging after a week and go back to being someone who cooks but doesn't blog.

That is all for now.

More soon.
